Upper Bridge is a Year 7 and 8 class, and is perched on the top level of the school, with amazing views of Te Whanganui-a-Tara: our stunning harbour. 

Ms Crewdson loves teaching this age group because of the diversity of thinking and growing independence that students bring to their learning. 

During the Year 7 and 8 years, students are working towards transitioning to college and are learning to be more aware of who they are as learners, as well as building resilience to face challenges and to step up to all of the opportunities that are in front of them. 

Developing and extending their literacy, numeracy and inquiry skills is at the heart of the Year 7 and 8 learning programme. Students have opportunities to make connections within their learning to the wider world, and to take action as part of society. 

Once a week our Year 7 and 8s students travel to Mt Cook School where they take part in Technicraft: a rotation of modules that cover soft materials/sewing, electronics and design technology, hard materials, food technology, robotics and movie making, and design tech. 

Our Year 7 and 8s have opportunities to lead – as Rōpū house leaders, as Kaitiaki of our younger students, as kaikaranga (caller) or kaikōrero (speaker) in our mihi whakatau ceremonies. 

At Roseneath we offer a programme where students in Years 7 and 8 can gain Leadership Licences where they plan and carry out independent educational trips, in groups of 3 or 4 students, that will complement our class programme. The main criteria for these licences is that students are consistently showing the school values and in particular, that they are trustworthy, honest and reliable, leaders of themselves and others, positive role models, resilient, responsible and helpful, collaborative and actively involved. 

Upper Bridge is a busy, vibrant and creative class where our senior students love to learn!
